Los Brillos vs. Los Rondels – “La La Te Amo”
Just when I thought my prized Tejano cover of the 1968 Delfonics hit “La La I Love You” was obscure, I discover Mexico’s Los Brillos. Not only do the Brillos cover the McAllen, Texas-based band’s “La La” word for word, they take things a step further by covering the flip side of the Rondels 45 “Eres Casado.” Originally I thought it was just a case of two Spanish language bands that both just happened to cover a popular soul tune. Then I notice head Rondel Carlos Landin’s name credited on the Brillos 45 and instantly see this is no coincidence. Good news is, both are great versions, the Americans for their smooth backing vocals and the Mexicans for their raw, crunchy drumming. To hear more from the Rondels check this post. To hear more from Los Brillos… uh, well you may be SOL there. Sorry.

I miss this record. Didn’t I trade it to you for the Dicky Treadway punk disc years ago?
Anyhow… gotta go with the Rondels version… just so smooth and sweet.
Yes! I did get a copy from you. I’ve found a couple more over the years. Seems to be around more than their Capri label ones. Thanks for the comment.
This is the same Rondels that put out that cover of the TSU Toronadoes’ “Getting the Corners” on Capri, right? “La La…” is some smokin’ Latin soul! Love it. Need it. Holler if you got a spare!
Curious they cut this on Impacto; I wonder if they did anything else for this label? Which, by the way, might be one of my favorite TX label designs–g*ddamn adorable.
