Gino Washington – I’ll Be Around (When You Want Me) (ATAC)
So I own a few Gino Washington records, some of which I really like. Then there’s this one which I just blindly bought about a month back. In this particular case “like” isn’t strong enough; I wholeheartedly adore the goddamn shit out of this tune and am a little embarrassed I just discovered it this year. What a beauty of a track with those warm backup vocals and that infectious chorus, all effortlessly flowing over the rock-solid rhythm section. Absolutely gorgeous. The flip’s nice too with its unexpected but very likable garage-y vibe.
